Festival

“Summer vacation” is quickly coming to an end which means things in Japan are getting busy.

The start of August, Mito had it’s annual festival. The first night again was fireworks at the lake surrounded by people and food. The second night was dancing up and down the main street with again, lots of people and food. And the final day was Mikoshi day where various groups in Mito went up the main street carrying a shrine and trying to make the chicken/ rooster thing look like it’s moving. The city of Mito’s bird was lacking a bit in the feathers so it wasn’t moving around as much as the others. Last year on this day, it was hot. This year it was hot and humid. it looks like something fun to be a part of, I wouldn’t do it in this heat. But I’m lucky. The temperature in Mito is nothing compared to Kyoto or Osaka.

As for school, it’s been really quiet. I’ll listen to the band practice occasionally but for the most part I’m making materials for class and getting ready for the upcoming semester. As bored as I am, I’m not ready for summer to be over. Is this how all teachers feel?
