Ready, Set, Go.

The day has come! Well, technically the day passed. On Wednesday, I flew 13(ish) hours from Chicago to Japan! The days leading up to that day have been stressful so I’m glad that I can sit back in my hotel room, look at my wonderful view of the airport, and relax. Until then, I’m counting down the minutes until it is an acceptable time to go to bed. Going to bed at 6PM probably isn’t the best idea.

I can honestly say I enjoyed my flight. Crazy right? Well, if/when you travel to Japan, I highly suggest taking ANA. I was lucky to be upgraded to business class but I hear premium economy is nice too.  I guess I’ll find out and report back since I won’t be flying business class again anytime soon.  Business class seats could do so much it was overwhelming at one point. Do you want it reclined, or just a regular chair, or a bed, or closer to the foot cubby? I just had to sit for 30 minutes to calm down. The good thing about sitting in business class was that you don’t have to worry about falling asleep on the person next to you because you can’t even see the person “next to you” in business class. It could be because I’m short and can’t see over the table wall thing, but I think anyone could have that problem.

My only problem the entire flight was the overhead bins are too high. I couldn’t reach the handle and even when I stood on my seat, I couldn’t get the the bin to open! Once the flight attendant came over and helped me we stood staring into an empty bin only to find my bag was in the next bin over. I’m really thriving at this a whole adult life thing.

For the night I’m staying in Narita which is outside of Tokyo. Tomorrow I, along with 5 others, will be picked up at the hotel and taken to Mito where we will meet other people in the program and our boss(es). We are each given two “buddies” which are like mentors and they will help us get situated into our apartments and help us navigate through the city. I’m excited

Thanks to everyone who called and made the time to see me before I left. I know I’m going to miss the comforts of home but I know I’ll find new comforts here.
