May has come and gone in a blink of an eye. It was an exciting month and I’m having a hard time believing that it actually happened.
The month started off going to Singapore for Golden Week. I met up with a college friend and together we explored the country city to see what it has to offer. If you haven’t been to Singapore, I would highly recommend it.
The weather was very tropical. Hot, humid, sunny with random showers every now and then. The people were friendly, the food was amazing, and the sites were beautiful. It’s very metropolitan that has a little faster pace than what I deal with in Mito, but I loved every moment of it.
Singapore’s food was amazing, much of it is Chinese influenced but the food in Little India is amazing! It was spicy but amazing. I really can’t describe it any other way. Singapore had a lot of fruit as well that I was constantly buying. Japan has fruit, but it’s way over priced so I don’t buy it much. I don’t remember the last time I ate so well and with great prices. I do wish I could have eaten at more hawker centers with the locals. But I will have to save it for next time.
I think my favorite part of the trip was just being outside. The architecture, views of the city, and the hiking was amazing. One of my favorite activities was the MacRitchie tree top walk I did. It was a little bit of a hike but it was well worth it.
After Singapore, my friend came back to Japan with me and experienced a typical Monday at school. My school thought she was my sister and at one point a teacher mistook her for me. I guess we Asians really do look alike. Later that week we toured around Tokyo. It was a vacation I didn’t want to end.
After my friend left, I had more friends come to Japan! I went down to Tokyo and got to play tourist again. We ate good food, played virtual reality Mario Kart, and got to test drive a car. It was a lot of fun, I wished I could have gone back to America with them.
To say it was an amazing month would be an understatement. Being around people from home and going on new adventures made me beyond happy. I still have to tell myself that everything that happened in May was real. With all the excitement that had happened in May, a quiet June is needed. I was able to rest and recuperate for the adventures that await in July and August.
It’s crazy to think the summer is almost halfway over. Summer vacation in Japan is in less than a month and school starts in America in a little over a month… 😂
