Hello friends!
I know it’s been awhile since my last post but don’t worry! I haven’t forgotten about you all. These past couple of months have been so busy but nothing really worth writing about. I would like to say I’ve grown accustomed to the way things are here… But honestly I think I’m just in my own little bubble and no one has bothered to call me out of it.
Undokai has come and gone and now we’re into rainy season! HOORAY FOR RAINY SEASON! Since undokai, I’ve been spending a decent amount of time in Tokyo. You can take a girl out of the city but you can’t take the city out of the girl. Yes I’m from the suburbs but if you ask anyone from Illinois where they’re from they’re going to say Chicago. Besides, I’m basically across the street from the city line.
Anyways shortly after undokai, I went to a baseball game in Tokyo! Oh how I love sport events in Japan! I saw the Hanshin Tigers (Osaka team) play the Yakult Swallows. I don’t know if I’ve mentioned this but, did you know Osaka and Chicago are sister cities? The similarities are endless! Good food, great city, both have one of the oldest baseball teams in the league (Cubs and Tigers), both have a huge fan base, and both are bad! Okay, being bad doesn’t really apply to the Cubs now but you catch my drift right? As much as I love going to Wrigley Field for baseball games, I think baseball games in Japan are better! The game is the same but the atmosphere is fun! The stadium is split in half between teams. It’s similar to the soccer games where there’s the fan section and constant cheering going on. There’s a cheer for when the team is at bat and for when the team scores a run. There’s no booing or fights going on which is nice. However, it’s kind of a tight squeeze in the seats. I was comfortable but that doesn’t say much since I’m 5’1 and can be comfortable literally anywhere. The Yakult Swallows had a fun cheer every time they scored a run. It was a song and umbrella dance thing. It’s pretty catchy..especially after hearing it 8 times. Hanshin had a song but I forgot what it was before I left the stadium (yeah, we lost pretty bad).
The week after the game I went back to Tokyo to go to a trick art museum. I’m sure most of you have seen the videos going around of them and they’re actually as fun as it looks! This museum was on Odaiba which is a man made island in Tokyo. Besides the museum, I went to a vintage arcade! All the games were probably from when my parents were kids. It was really cool to see all the games. I can’t even describe them they were so different from today’s games. If anyone has the opportunity to go to either a trick art museum or a vintage arcade, I highly suggest it.
