Feeling Festive

This month has just started but it’s already so exciting. For starters, I FINALLY GOT INTERNET (woot woot!!! Party!!!). It only took 3 months… and two weeks for them to come and install it.. plus another 3 to get it working. But who’s counting? That whole process was so… indescribable. For one thing, if you don’t buy a wireless router through the company you purchased your internet from, they don’t have to help you set it up. They just come, stick a wire through your wall, connect it to their…

Summer Lovin’

July 26, 2015 With it being summer vacation for the students, the teachers have so much free time! And by teachers, I mean I have so much free time. The teachers surprisingly are still pretty busy. But the environment at school is a lot more relaxed when children are not there. The students have been on vacation for about a week now.. But there are still some students that come in for extra help in math. All the teachers take part in it except me.. which is probably a good…

Tis’ the (summer) Season

My first term as an AET has come and gone! Where has the time gone?! It’s been 3 months since I boarded that plane! Whaaaaaat? Things in Japan are going really well. I’ve adjusted to teaching (for the most part) and my life is in full swing! For the most part, my life here is no different than in America. Except everything is in Japanese, I’m a pro at taking public transportation, and I’m in general more active. Okay, so maybe my life here is a little different than in…

This crazy thing called work.

Hello everyone! What a month it’s been! It’s hard to believe that it’s already July! Time is really flying by! I know I said I would post something about what work here is like (for me at least because the reason I came to Japan was to work).. so here it goes.. hope you don’t fall asleep reading this..   6 AM: wake up and get ready for the day. 7:20-7:30- leave my apartment and head to work. Some days when I want to be a rebel I’ll leave at…

Golden Week

It’s been a month since I’ve started my life in Japan! I can’t believe it’s been a month.. It feels like I’ve been here forever (okay maybe not forever…but longer than a month). The five other new AETs and I had a week of training before going off to our respective school(s). Technically it’s been three weeks of teaching but my first and second week had a bunch of holidays, also known as Golden Week! What is Golden Week you ask? Well, it’s a series of holidays in the same…

Hello, my name is..

I know I’ve only been here for almost 2 weeks but it feels like forever.. In a good way of course! I’ve completed my training and I am now a sensei! Monday was my first day on my own, teaching students English. I only responded in German twice so I’d call that a successful day! I’ve also been asked if I was Korean and half Japanese on two different occasions… But no one ever guesses I’m American.. hmm I wonder why.. For the most part everyone (including my students) think…

Ready, Set, Go.

The day has come! Well, technically the day passed. On Wednesday, I flew 13(ish) hours from Chicago to Japan! The days leading up to that day have been stressful so I’m glad that I can sit back in my hotel room, look at my wonderful view of the airport, and relax. Until then, I’m counting down the minutes until it is an acceptable time to go to bed. Going to bed at 6PM probably isn’t the best idea. I can honestly say I enjoyed my flight. Crazy right? Well, if/when…

1 Week, 4 Days 12 hours and 30 minutes

The adventure starts now! Well, more like in a week and a half. As of last week (when I was cleared to buy my plane ticket) I am moving to Japan for the year! Some…or most of you might think this is totally random… When did this happen? Well, I got a phone call in February and after a whole twelve hours of deciding if I wanted to pack my life into a duffle, a backpack, and little suitcase… well, how can a girl say no? So, I thought I would write…
